Age Concern North Shore Inc is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation that is one of a federation of 34 Age Concern Councils within New Zealand. This website is administered by them on behalf of the seven Northern Regional Age Concern Councils, and funded by the Ministry of Health as a heath promotion initiative for older people.
Collectively Age Concern(s) have worked to promote the rights, wellbeing and quality of life of older people, koroua and kuia and their carers since 1948. Advocating positive, healthy ageing for people of all ages is a major objective. Age Concern works closely with other organisations within New Zealand to promote Positive Ageing Strategies.

Our Philosophy
To age positively means welcoming the opportunities of older age, while acknowledging the realities. It requires the resilience and courage to accept change in oneself and in the world around us.
Positive ageing is enhanced in a society where the rights and responsibilities of older people are acknowledged.
Older people should be free to choose their level of involvement in work, community service, recreation and education.
Our attitudes, our level of activity and support and our social, cultural and economic environment affect our ability to age well.
Independence – Participation – Care – Self fulfilment – Dignity: these are the cornerstones of the United Nations Principles for Older Persons (www.un.org/ageing/un_principles.html), supported and promoted by Age Concern.
